About Mrs. Raske

I choose teaching as a profession because I love working with children. Teaching seemed to be the obvious route. It’s a good thing I like math and science too because that seems to be my path. I completed my education at Southern Illinois University, receiving a B.S in Education. I then attended Grand Canyon University gaining a Masters in Teaching. I choose to teach in a Catholic school for many reasons. The first one is because I went to Catholic schools, including Cataldo, from Kindergarten through my senior year in high school. The main reason is because I cannot imagine teaching and trying to make a difference in children’s lives without addressing God and all he symbolizes. You can contact me at sraske@cataldo.org

Classroom Information

Congratulations Math is Cool team and thank you for all your work Mark!!

Our theme at this time is - LENT: An opportunity for growth in our faith life.  Please talk to your child about what type of growth he/she is working on during this season.

≈  March 28-April 1

Religion - Lent, and all it entails, is a primary focus at this time of year.  We will work from the book but also focus on the meaning of this church season and how it affects us as individuals.  We are continuing Unit 3 which is an intense study of the Eucharist.  Please take some time to discuss your child's first communion and the significance of this event in your family's lives.

We are nearly finished with Unit 3 and will be preparing for a test at the end of next week.

Reading - Students will be reading from their individual books and, while reading,  practice strategies learned in class. We continue to work with comprehension strategies such as making inferences.  We will be focusing on vocabulary - how to 'show' not tell, how to infer meaning, etc...

Writing - Students will begin typing their realistic fiction drafts next week.  You may see a pink pamphlet come home because many students have some writing left to do!  If you see the pamphlet, ask to see what has been written.

We are working with Unit 24 in spelling this week.  The focus is correct usage of apostrophes when showing possession and in the use of contractions.

Math - We are finishing Unit 8: Fractions and Ratios.  This week sees kids reviewing many of the skills they have learned in addition to dividing fractions.  The Unit 8 test will be Monday in order to avoiding interference with testing.  Please encourage your student to use IXL to reinforce daily skills and help improve their understanding of the math concepts on which we are working.

Sixth Grade Math -  We have completed Module 7.  Students will have a chapter test on Monday so there is no interference with ITBS testing.  Most of this week will be spent reviewing the chapter during class.

Special Events

≈ We are recycling plastic baggies in class now!  Our school will receive a profit from this endeavor so if you have any at home have your child bring them into the classroom.
